Question:

Affidavit of paternity help?

Okay, this is what I want to do: First, I live in Oklahoma. The father of my baby was not present when my son was born and we are not married (and are not together now), so by law, the father's name was not put on the birth certificate. I want to have his name added to my son's birth certificate, but I DO NOT WANT TO GET DHS INVOLVED.

I know it sounds stupid, but they will become involved later. There are other reasons I want it done this way. Can I just have a sworn affidavit signed, notarized, and send it to vital records WITHOUT getting state DHS involved? Thanks

P.S. I did ask this question in the law area and didn't get any answers.

  1. I believe that you can change a birth certificate w/o a court order within the first year.  Your best option is to call the department of vital statistics and tell them what you want and they will direct you.  That is one state office who is actually nice and helpful.  Good luck.
