I have a feeling that it's an expensive place especially for a broke college student like me. Has anyone looked into this?

  1. eelliko is 100% correct.  Hessen is quite large and has several large cities (Frankfurt, Darmstadt, Wiesbaden for example).  But there are also many rural areas where life isn't so expensive.  I live in the Odenwald area (deep south of Hessen) and you can get a hotel room here for about 30 Euro a night (not including food).  If you go into the cities, you'll spend 60+ Euro a night.

It really all depends on where you want to go.

  2. There are some places that are cheaper than others. If you go to http://www.hessehome.info/accomodations.... you should find what you're looking for.

  3. Hessen is a whole state with a population of 6 million people, so nobody can give a general answer to that question. It depends on where you'll be, really.Big cities such as Frankfurt, tend to be expensive, though cheap youth hostels can be found there as well, while accomodation in smaller cities is much less expensive.

  4. See the website of the Youth Hostel Association in Hesse:

    http://www.jugendherberge.de/de/jugendhe...

    http://old.web02.djh.de/international/ht...

    http://www.djh-hessen.de/

Prices start from 16 EUR per night.
