The wife and I are going to London for the first time on a strict budget. Is there actually good restaurants that won't break the bank?

  1. Sure London does have some fantastic but pricey restaurants, but there are also some fantastic & affordable ones as well. My favorite which is only a 10min walk from mine is Pierino right next to South Kensington Underground Station at 37 Thurloe Place. It is an up market small restaurant that attracts many wealthy families from The Royal Borough Of Kensington & Chelsea, but with all this it is very affordable with great Italian food with your main meal costing anything from £6 to around £10. I love this place and keep on going. It may not be right in the center of town but I would go across the city for it and it also has the Natural History & Science Museum behind it and so is the V&A. The world famous Harrods is less than a mile up the road, taking you just over 15min to walk and 3min to drive.

I recomended this to friends from out of town and they were really pleased with the recomendation and after their meal they went for a romantic walk in Hyde Park which was again 15min walk away.

There are many other great places to eat but this is my favourite for a reasonable price. Another place is the chained restaurants Zizzi, one is in Covent Garden, 20 Bow Street, London WC2E 7AW, Another is 1min walk from Selfridges (the shops which is way better than Harrods :D), 110-116 Wigmore Street, London W1U 3RS and there are loads more, go on their website http://www.zizzi.co.uk/indexnon.html to find more.

    Hope This Helps

  2. If you like chinese food, head to china town, some great value, good food places there, last month i went and a meal for 2 cost £15 for two courses and tasted great as well

  3. (1) Gordon's Wine Bar next to Charing Cross station has delicous cheezes and meats to go with your wine. It is centrally located and very charming (although a little Bohemian). There are some outside tables.

    (2) Eating in the pubs in the afternoon is an affordable and tasty way to get through the day.

    (3) Indian food was traditionally the cheapest, but there are some very expensive places now. Check the menu.

    (4) Most hotels have breakfast included. Pinch an occasional biscuit to help you through the late morning.

    (5) A lot of Londoners grab standing meals through the day. Pizza from a window, or fish and chips, or "jacket potatoes" [highly cooked baked potatoes that you eat on the street, filled with wonderful delicacies].

    (6) The food courts at Harrod's are a delicious place to grab an inexpensive meal. There are 28 restuarants which cover the spectrum of costs.

    (7) Tea can be a good place to get a filling meal in a nice place without breaking the bank.

  4. There are loads of great places to eat in London, many very reasonably priced, but it is hard to recommend anywhere specific without knowing where you will be staying and what sites you will be seeing! Why don't you try toptable, where you can sort restaurants by area, price and style of cuisine. It also has some offers on it, which can save you money! Here is the link:
