Afghanistan, golf after decades of destruction!
After almost a decade of bombing, thousands of killings and a complete destruction of infra structure, Afghanistan saw a game of golf.
As crazy as it sounds, the European Union ambassador to Afghanistan stared off the game with a dozen body guards.
It is disgusting as the European ambassador realizes the remake of the golf course but has completely ignored the loss of thousands of innocent lives that have been wasted in the past.
Afghanistan has its own Tiger Woods. Muhammad Afzal Abdul has been the star act of golf in Afghanistan for the last 35 years. He has seen the course going all miserable in the last decade as it has been the home of bombs and dead bodies rather than clubs or golf balls.
A course full of rocks and sand was indeed a sight for Afzal as he compared the current course with the one he saw 35 years ago. “I didn’t even recognize it” said Afzal.
The course has been facing the sky for the last 60 years. The time of King Zahir was the era when the course was at its bloom. The war has completely torn it apart.
Vygaudas Usackas, the European Union ambassador to Afghanistan played a few strokes with Afzal to relive the past moments of the Kabul Golf Club course.
It was a sad sight. It reminded of the times when Afghanistan was a country of great culture and global importance.
People of this war stricken country are desperate for hope. Golf is a breath of fresh air as it can attract young and old spectators who can think ahead of the loss they have seen for decades now.
The joke that is in the form of Hamid Karzai, the president of the country, has been a very lazy man. Bringing in sports and entertainment is the way the people of Afghanistan can rejuvenate the lost glory they had in Afghanistan.
By far, nothing has been done to ignite sports or other healthy activities in the country to provoke a sense of hope and cultivation of mindsets.
The European Union ambassador should think ahead of golf and take the European forces out of Afghanistan and do something no country has done thus far, give Afghans their country back.
