Afghanistan Cricket Board still awaiting contact from MCC – Cricket News Update
Chief executive of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, Nasimullah Danish, has expressed eagerness at the prospect of hosting a touring team from the Marylebone Cricket Club in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-Phillip-Hodson-c85275, had not been in contact
with him as yet.
“As yet we have had no formal contact from the MCC or Mr. Hodson regarding his visit to Kabul or plans for a tour but we are looking forward to hearing more and would like to have an opportunity to formally discuss a possible tour,” said Danish.
He expressed confidence in the board’s ability to fully meet the expectations the MCC might have, saying they were up to the challenge of hosting a foreign team.
“We have no doubt that the ACB is able to achieve everything that a tour by the MCC would require.”
Hodson caused a ripple in the subcontinent when he recently told the BBC that there was more chance of the prestigious club sending a team to Afghanistan than neighbours Pakistan. This resulted in outrage in Pakistan, with former captain and wicketkeeper
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-Latif-c84084 blasting the MCC for their double standards.
“I think there is much more chance of taking a team to Afghanistan than there is to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745 and I don't think it will be long away,” Hodson said, adding that he would be travelling to Kabul soon to inspect the
cricket pitches.
The Afghan team, owing to the troubled political situation in the country, has had an erratic rise to prominence in the cricketing world. Professional sport was initially forbidden in the country during the Taliban regime, with sports grounds being used
for public executions.
However, the Afghans are currently one of the more promising prospects among new and emerging cricket teams. After qualifying for the World Twenty20 2010 in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, they proceeded to win the Inter-Continental Cup for associate countries, in addition
to coming in second at the Asian Games in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/China-c40996.
They received ODI status after coming in fifth during the World Cup 2011 qualifiers, and have recently featured in a variety of tournaments, including the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Intercontinental Cup, the ICC World Cricket League Championship, and the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers.
