Afghanistan U-19 vs Sri Lanka U-19 - Asian Cricket cup Council Under-19s- Group B- Match Update
In an encounter between Afghanistan U-19 and Sri Lanka U-19 which took place at Royal Selangor Club,Kuala Lumpur(neutral venue) on the 23th of June ’12, the Lankans managed to win by 4 wickets with 80 balls remaining.
Afghanistan U-19 won the toss and opted to bat, aiming to post a high total and defend it with its bowling attack. After a steady start in the first five overs, opener Javed Ahmedi slapped the ball to backward point into the hands of Lahiru Madusanka, who
took an athletic catch to open the wickets account for his side.
While opener, Hashmatullah Shaidi found it hard to score runs consuming 42 balls for his 6 runs, Shabir Noori consolidated on the other end. Trying to break the shackles, Hashmatullah lost his wicket in the process to the slow left-armer Amila Aponso.
Off-spinner Tharindu Kaushal and left-armer, Amila Aponso dictated terms in the field as they restricted the opposition by bowling them out on a score of just 129 while the two spinners shared 6 wickets between them. Conceding just over 2 runs an over and
denting the opposition at regular intervals the spin-duo had set up a considerable easy chase for their batting line-up.
Afghanistan U-19 had to bowl the opposition out in order to win the match since the score posted on the board was not enough to strangle the opponents to 50 overs. The Lankans got off to a much worse start losing their first opener, Vidura Adikari at a
personal score of 5, with one down batsman, Sebastian Perera soon to follow, the score rested on 22 for the loss of 2 wickets in 7.4 overs.
The attack from the Afghans was intense as they dried up the scoring of runs while nailing the opposition at regular intervals. Half-way through the match, scoring just 74 runs for the loss of four wickets in 25 overs, the Lankan ship was half drowned
