Three half-tons from the top order, coupled with a 5-wicket haul from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Edward-James-McKenzie-Cowan-c55398
Kratzman Oval in Brisbane.
The India Under-19s won the toss and elected to bat first, getting off to a flying start with the in-form opening duo of Prashant Chopra (67) and skipper Unmukt Chand (70).
By the time India’s first wicket fell in the 21st over – Chand dismissed by Shabir Noori (10-0-45-4) – the team total had reached 126. Chopra followed him back to the pavilion in the 30th over after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Ahmadi-c66518 (10-0-42-2) sent him
packing, but number 3 batsman Baba Aparajith managed to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 it out at the crease for a while, contributing 83 runs to the total.
With the exception of the top order, the remaining batting order was unable to contribute anything substantial – with the exception of Akshdeep Nath (20) and Smit http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 (11), the rest of the batsmen failed to reach double digits. Nevertheless, the India
U-19s managed to finish at a respectable total of 271.
Afghanistan’s innings had the same features which had characterised India’s time at the crease – an early burst, followed by a complete lower order collapse.
Wicketkeeper batsman Afsar http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 (21) and skipper Javed Ahmadi (50) opened the innings for their side, with a 42-run opening stand. The former fell prey to Vikas Mishra in the 8th over, and Hashmatullah Shaidi (32) was up next.
Ahmadi’s dismissal at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shabir-Noori-c89259 (62) to step up to the crease, and his contributions got his side up to 195 by the 40th over. However, from there onwards, it was a downhill
slide for the Afghan team.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nasir-c78728 Ahmadzai (26) were the last two batsmen who managed to reach double digit totals – the remainder of the batting order crumbled in the face of the Indian bowling attack, and Afghanistan finished, all out, at 219 in the 47th
over, granting the India U-19s a 52-run win.
