http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Under-19 World Cup (Warm-Up Match) – Match Update
Bolstered by the strength of half-centuries from Hashmatullah Shaidi and Najibullah Zadran, in addition to 3-wicket hauls by both Yamin Ahmadzai and Javed Ahmadi, the Afghanistan Under-19s claimed a comprehensive 101-run win over the Ireland Under-19s, during
their ICC Under-19 World Cup warm-up match, played today on August 7 at the Norman Gray Oval in Brisbane.
The Ireland U-19s won the toss, and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Ahmadi-c66518 (34).
The opening stand resulted in a combined total of 23 runs, after which Adam Coughlan dismissed Afsar Khan, lbw, in the 4th over. The next partnership, however, between Ahmadi and Hashmatullah Shaidi (64), proved far more fruitful, yielding 50
runs, which got their side up to a total of 73.
The Afghan team received a blow when Ahmadi was bowled by Tyrone Kane in the 15th over, and his successor http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aftab-Alam-c945 proved fairly disappointing, contributing a mere 6 runs before becoming Kane’s second victim in the 23rd over.
Dockrell finally managed to dislodge Hashmatullah Shaidi in the 35th over, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohibullah-c77561 Paak (27*) and Najibullah Zadran (56*), however,
remained not out, and their unbeaten 74-run partnership enabled their side to post a final total of 257.
Ireland, however, were unable to apply themselves at the crease long enough to establish any meaningful partnerships, and Afghanistan’s Javed Ahmadi (6-1-10-3), Yamin Ahmadzai (8-0-31-3), and Sayed Shirzad (7-0-34-2) managed to restrict their opponents to
156, all out.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 der Merwe (7), wicketkeeper batsman Ryan Hunter (18), and Alistair Shields (21) – registered
disappointing performances, while Tyrone Kane followed up his solid bowling performance with a mere 5-run contribution.
The Ireland Under-19s were unable to stand up to the opposing bowling attack, and eventually finished at 156 by the end of 40 overs – 101 runs short of the target.
