Afghanistan Under-19s v Nepal Under-19s – ICC’s Under-19 World Cup Qualifiers - First Innings Recap
Nepal Under-19s just managed to score 144 runs before being bowled out in the 45th over of the innings, in ICC’s Under-19 World Cup qualifier against Afghanistan Under-19s, at Observatory Lane, Rathmines Dublin, on the July 28,
2011.
The Afghan captain, Shir Shirzai won the toss and decided to bowl first on a slow and low track, which was expected to help the slow bowlers as the ball softens up. Because of the overhead conditions, the ground staff was not able to prepare
the pitch properly and stroke-play was extremely difficult on that track.
Nepal was off to a flying start as the openers scored 55 runs before Fajlur Rahman was dismissed in the ninth over of the innings. The number three batsman, Sagar Pun was also sent back to the pavilion very soon.
However, wicketkeeper/batsman, Subash Khakurel took the responsibility on his shoulders and played a wonderful knock under trying circumstances to avoid an embarrassing situation for his team, but he could not find any kind of support from
the other end and the wickets kept on tumbling as a result.
Rajesh Pulami Magar played a little cameo and scored 20 crucial runs at the depth of the innings to give his team some hope. Because of his efforts, Nepal scored 144 runs on a difficult track.
Khakurel remained the top scorer for his team as he scored 54 runs off 92 balls in which he struck five boundaries. A couple of other batsmen were off to good starts but they failed to build on the momentum.
It was a wonderful team effort with the ball by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shir-Shirzai-c90029, Sayed Shirzad and Abdul Naseri picked up a couple of wickets each
to dismantle the batting line-up of Nepal.
Although the pitch is very difficult for batting but this is still a very low score by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nepal-c2965 and their bowlers and fielders will have to be on their toes, if they have any chance of defending this total. However, an interesting finish seems
to be on the cards.
