Afghanistan cricket team looking to play against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 – Cricket News Update
Chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, Dr. Omar Zakhilwal, has revealed that the board is in talks with their Indian counterparts, in order to host the Men in Blue for a match in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745.
“We are in discussions with India to come forward and play us,” said Zakhilwal. “We have asked them and we are hopeful of a positive reply. If any team can come to Afghanistan and play, it would be very good for us. There are so many misconceptions about Afghanistan, teams can feel fully secure in Kabul, they will have lot of fans who will cheer for them.”
“We are in discussion with India to play a match and we also hope they invite our players into the Indian Premier League because that will establish them further,” he added.
Among the more prominent Affiliate Members of the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 (after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979), and brought it back to the country.
Since then, cricket has grown in popularity despite the political tension and unrest in the country, with the government looking to meet the steady demand for the sport by providing new facilities, in addition to contemplating the erection of cricket stadiums. The growth of cricket has even received the encouragement of the militant Taliban.
Afghanistan have been among the more successful Associate Members of the ICC, having attained ODI status which is valid till 2013, in addition to having won 12 of the 23 ODIs they have played so far. On the look-out for matches against quality opposition, they played their first ODI against an ICC Full Member in February this year, when they took on Pakistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Although they eventually went on to lose the match by 7 wickets, the match provided the team a prime opportunity to hone their skills on the international level. Another such opportunity arose recently, when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 agreed to play Afghanistan for an only ODI at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium on August 25 – another match which the team lost (by 66 runs), but took a lot away from.
With the team on the rise, a match against India, in addition to opportunities to feature in the cash rich Indian Premier League tournament, could go a long way in aiding Afghanistan’s progress in the cricketing world.
