Afghanistan v Malaysia – Asian Cricket Council Trophy Elite 2012 (Group A) – Match Recap
A half-ton from Samiullah Shenwari, followed by a 3-wicket haul by Gulbodin Naib, saw http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imtiaz-Sheikh-c64290 Zayed Stadium in
Abu Dhabi on October 3.
Malaysia won the toss and elected to field first, but Aminuddin Ramly (5-0-20-2) and Anwar Rahman (10-1-37-2) remained the only stand-out bowlers as Afghanistan worked their way comfortably up to a total of 234 by the end of 50 overs.
Afghanistan opened their innings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asghar-Stanikzai-c1094 (14) remained unremarkable,
and his 29-run partnership with skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nawroz-Mangal-c2084 (20) came to an end in the 17th over when he was bowled by Anwar Rahman.
Mangal was sent packing by Khizar Hayat in the 23rd over – however, the next duo up to bat was that of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nabi-c78373 (47), both of whom joined forces for a 89-run stand for the 5th wicket.
Their efforts got the team up to 174, after which Nabi was dismissed by Nazril Rahman. His successor Gulbodin Naib (5) remained lacklustre, falling prey to Suharril Fetri in the 42nd over, and Anwar Rahman claimed Samiullah Shenwari as his second
victim of the day in the very next over, leaving Afghanistan at 184 for 7 by the 43rd over.
The 44-run stand between Afsar http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 (27) and Rahmat Shah (16*), remained the only highlight of the lower order, and by the end of 50 overs, with 8 wickets down, Afghanistan posted a final total of 234.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Nabi-c77111 (10-1-25-2) ensured that none of the remaining batsmen were allowed to reach any potentially threatening scores.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Suhan-Kumar-c91680 (10) remained similarly lacklustre.
By the time Faiz was sent packing, Malaysia were at 68 for 4 by the 23rd over. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aminuddin-Ramly-c43989 (33) steadied the innings somewhat.
Hayat (11) fell without putting up much of a fight, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Faizal-Abu-Hassan-c76855 (16*) joined Sharif for a valiant unbeaten 52-run stand which eventually went in vain and failed to win their team the match. By the end of 50 overs, with 6 wickets down, Malaysia were
cut off at 198, and Afghanistan went on to claim a 36-run victory.
