  1. Store brand frozen veggies, beans, whole wheat pastas etc.

  2. buy dry beans rice and grains in larger quantities because they stay good for a long time... as far as produce, just watch for what's on sale, it's just not all that cheap. I usually buy things I will use alot of at costco, they have good prices on produce.  Farmers markets are not really cheap (at least mine isn't) but at least the produce is fresh and locally grown, so it's worth it in my opinion.  you can also grow your own if you have a yard, tomatoes are easy to grow, so is squash... even I can grow it!

  3. Canned fruits, vegetables, and soups are really affordable, just make sure there's no chicken fat/broth in them.

  4. Dried beans and grains and fresh in-season produce.

  5. look for the brands Boca or Morning Star, they sell meatless hamburgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, meat scrample, and a bunch of other things and all you have to do is put them in the microwave, and they're are affordable,. real cheap actually

  6. Yup, it's called fresh fruit and vegetables. :)

  7. Fruits and veggies that are in season

    Dried beans

    Couscous

    Quinoa

    Rice

    Potatoes

    Sweet Potatoes

    Yucca

Frozen spinach is a very economical buy year-round

Try different ethnic cuisines, and check out farmer's markets, fresh produce stands and ethnic grocery stores.

In general, try to stick to recipes instead of ready-to-eat.  This goes not only for whole meals, but also for sauces.  You can do a lot with the stuff that you have on your refrigerator door - you just have to put it together.  One good site is Allrecipes.com.  If you click on "ingredients", you can list what you want in a recipe and what you don't want, and it will search the database for you.

  8. Well, it depends on what you mean by 'vegetarian' foods. There are foods MADE vegetarian, some that just plain out don't have meat, and then there's produce.

•Vegetarian foods like, Boca, Morningstar and Amy's Burgers and other products can be up to $5 each, I've found, and when packages come with as little as 8 and as much as 12 ounces, I try not to splurge on that

•There are foods like, fries, frozen pizzas, frozen entrées, beans and other items and dishes like these that won't break the budget

•There is also produce, which is obviously vegetarian, because it is fruits and vegetables. Prices vary, but you can buy things like wok ready broccoli [$3] or spiniach [$4] and other things

  9. the cheap ones are at the local farmers market
