my best friend is afraid of flying and refuses to fly with any other than 2 specific companies

  1. The company really doesn't matter from a safety standpoint. All airlines that operate in the United States are certified by strict guidelines as set aside by the FAA. Sometimes, however, larger planes do allow for smoother rides, which could be a reason that your friend prefers one airline over another. Nevertheless, you can be assured that all airlines operating in the US today are safe. The company doesn't make a difference in terms of safety.


  2. i think it does sometimes come down to the airline company. the more prestigous airlines such as emirate and qantas have good records, then there are the smaller, cheaper and older aeroplanes for some indonesian and asian countries that are often know to crash, which makes them appeal less and the thought of flying with them unsettling. it is always good, if possible to stick with those trustable companies.

  3. As long as we're talking first-world countries (US, Canada, Europe, Japan, etc.) any airline is as safe as any other airline.  

    But I would be slightly concerned flying with an airline from a third-world country.
