Afraid to fly on the plane?

Question

im leaving on a month long vacation tomorrow (yay) but afraid to fly on the plane. im afraid of heights and afraid something wrong will happen. ever since 9/11 everyone has been on edge and i know that security has improved.

but what if something breaks in the middle of the flight? what if they run out of fuel (even the extra), what if lightning hits the plane?

any advice?

What I recommend is just take sleeping pills bro...

You won't be scared if you can't remember it...

I read about a pro basketball player, and everytime they fly to go play another team, he takes sleeping pills, because he was scared...

He must of had ALOT of pills...

When you are afraid of heights, you can look down from an open space (balcony, roof,etc) and tend to lose a sense of security. When flying, you can't readily look down and being inside a fuselage reinforces the security feeling.  The chances of something breaking in the middle of a flight is astronomical and they never run out of fuel.  Pilots know how much the airplane weighs, how many passengers will be on board (weight factor) and the distance to the destination.  All this is taken into consideration for fuel.  If lightning hits the aircraft, it will discharge into the air, and you won't even know it.  Unfortunately, movies make it seem like a disaster if lightning strikes the plane - but that's the movies.

Let the flight attendant know that this is your first flight and they will keep an eye on you to help keep your nerves calm.  Go and enjoy your flight.

What if it does?  What if you get hit by a truck on your way to the store?  What ever happens will happen.  You can't live every day in fear of it.  Just go and have fun.  That's all there is to it.

You have more of a chance of getting killed in a car than on a aircraft.
