  1. Hi,

It is an awesome route to do. I have done a 2 month trip down from Nairobi to Cape Town. There are just so many highlights on the route. My personal favourite is the Ngorongoro Crater, it is one of those jaw dropping sites. But quite literally there are loads of awesome sights.

One thing that is important to mention and that is that you will be driving long distances but that is all part of it. It is one of those trips that you sit back, relax with a book and then get wowed by the destinations you go too.

There are loads of operators running trips down to Cape Town (over 20 companies). Of them there are about 10 companies that I would recommend.

I know it can be quite confusing comparing tour prices with local payments and then with the prices of the optional extras are. Some companies charge a smaller tour price and then increase the local payment. While others have a bigger local payment and then include most of the optional extras.

Basically, what you need to do is narrow it down to 3 operators and then calculate the total cost bearing in mind the Tour Cost, Local Payment, Optional Extras (don't forget that Zanzibar accommodation isn't included on most trips - you can budget 25 - 35 USD per day for accommodation on the island- just another tip Nungwi Beach is in my opinion the best area on the island to stay), and then your daily budget (15 - 25 USD a day as a guide).

You will see that they prices come out pretty similar.

Here are some really reputable tour operators in my experience from years of being in the africa overland industry:

    Acacia

    ATC

    Nomad

    African Trails

One thing to bear in mind, you will generally get a better price from agents of the tours. There are a number of companies on the web that are agents of tours.

I hope this helps. Have an awesome time! Safe travels.
