how many hours ahead is africa from northern california?

There is a site that let you have the time, you need to put the time in your place and then ask the time in Africa.

Earth is divided in to 360 Logitude so 360/24 =15. So there is a difference of one hour per 15 logitude, but various local place uses some correction on time.

So I will come back with the site to use.

The time in Africa can vary a lot ( about four hours). So imagine splitting Africa into four vertical sections. Now, from left to right, California is around 9 - 5 hours behind that part of Africa.

This is a rough estimate so give or take an hour.

Africa is a continent with a number of time zones, so there is no single answer.  Specifying which part of Africa would be a good idea.

The African continent stretches across four time zones.

When it's 12 noon in California, it is:

- 7 p.m. in Morocco and west Africa

- 8 p.m. in Algeria, Nigeria, Kinshasa and Windhoek

- 9 p.m. in South Africa, Libya and Tunisia (Daylight Time in Tunis)

- 10 p.m. in Egypt (Daylight Time) and east Africa

Adjoining island nations add two additional time zones:

- 6 p.m. in the Cape Verde Islands, off the west coast

- 11 p.m. in the Seychelles, beyond the east coast

Observe that California right now is on Daylight Saving Time.  In winter, you would be an additional hour behind all these times except for Egypt and Tunisia, which also observe Daylight Time.  If it were Northern winter, noon in California would be 10 p.m. in Namibia, where they turn their clocks ahead, but in the opposite season from you.

Better check with your friends about those times.  Cameroon is indeed GMT +1, but Ghana is an hour behind Cameroon.  Right now, when it's noon in California, it's 7 p.m. in Ghana and 8 p.m. in Cameroon.
