  1. Yes, some of us do.  Some don't resent it, but just choose not to practice it.  Blacks have been speaking on the hypocrisy of Christians for centuries.

  2. Sadly most of us are strongly Christian. However I do not like Christianity. I just believe it's harming us all.

  3. I am black not african american, I don't think that Christianity is wrong, i am not a practicing christian but i believe in Christ. I think a lot of the things written in the bible was misused to enslave our ancestors but that doesn't mean that there is something wrong with the faith. And another thing ppl ignore is that the white ppl never actually picked the slaves out of africa they only bought and transport them to this side of the world. Other africans traded slaves to white ppl. I think we need to get over this whole slavery argument. There were white slaves, chinese slaves indian slaves. The only reason why so much black ppl were traded was because they were so easily acquired cause other black ppl were readily selling them.

  4. In my experience, many African Americans are very spiritually grounded and find their Christianity to be a great source of strength and wisdom. I do not consider myself a "Christian" but I do not carry any resentment towards it due to it being forced on my ancestors. I never even looked at it that way, to be honest. I do not like some of the messages that are carried out by those who consider themselves to be "Christians" and I am much more open when it comes to spirituality which is why I do not define myself as Christian. Plus, my family is Catholic. If that is even relevant..ha.

An interesting topic to explore further with others.

  5. I'm not black or Christian but just from personal observation it seems to me like probably 90% of blacks in America are Christian. And a lot of them seem to take Christianity very serious, especially the older ones. You always see them going to church, talking about Jesus, ect.

Yes, Christianity was forced on almost all European countries. Remember Europe used to be pagan. Christianity was started in the Middle East, not Europe.

  6. As African American, I do not resent Christianity. I really do not know many people of my ethnicity that resent Christianity. I TRULY mean no harm when I say this, most other religions or the lack of religion are from other races such as Asians and Caucasians.

  7. No. I'm Catholic and it works for me. What's in the past is in the past. If I were to resent everything that was forced on certain ancestors of mine I'd resent everything from religion to the language that I speak and some of the foods that I eat. I don't really worry about why my ancestors were Catholic. What matters is why *I'm* Catholic, and I am because of all of the religions that I've looked at, researched, and tried, it's the one that fits me. Things evolve in many different ways. We are who we are now.

  8. Having been born and raised in Ireland, you should know that it wasn't forced on anyone there.

  9. I don't think many black people realize that. Hmmm, this is a very interesting question. I'm an atheist, but pretty much all of my close relatives are religious. Some of them are kind of racist towards white people, and yet they still practice christianity. Yea, I don't think most realize the irony.

  10. I agree with you. Yes, christianity was forced on African Americans. I, myself, do not have a religion, but if I did, it wouldn't be christianity.

However, most African Americans are christians...which I don't get.
