Question:

African Clawed Frog and sand?

I have my african clawed frog with a betta in a 5 gallon tank, but want to switch the gravel to sand because I think it looks better.

Could the sand negatively effect the frog?

  1. First off I would advise you to move the frog either to a different tank or the betta because this frog will try and attempt to eat the betta.

Don't use sand though, the acf will kick it up and eat it, I'm not exactly sure how easy it is for them to pass it but it can't be very easy. Don't use gravel either, unless they're pretty big pieces cause just like I said about the betta the acf will try and eat the gravel.

Also I'm not gunna hark on you about the tank  size because when I got mine I had him in a 1 gal tank...but you might wanna think about investing in a larger tank because it'll need room to swim around.

  2. Along with the danger of ingestion, sand is difficult to clean in comparison to gravel.

  3. Yes. If the frog or beta ingest the sand it can KILL them. It may look better but its worse for the animals. Good Luck Though!
