If im keeping my african dwarf frog in a 1.25 gallon tank can or is it necessary to put a little mountain of aquarium rocks or something so it could get out of the water when ever it wants?

I've heard that they need to get out of the water sometimes kinda like red-eared sliders. true?

  1. They mostly live underwater, and breathe water. But, they sometimes emerge to breathe air. Mine don't have anything that rises above the water and they are perfectly fine. In the past, I have had frogs live for eight years (and even at that, their death was caused on my part for not paying attention to the temperature of water ="( ALWAYS ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION TO THE TEMPERATURE. Or you are going to have some dead froggies =( )

They do come up for air every now and again. Mine just float up to the top, stick their heads out of water, and breathe. I suppose it could not hurt. My cat knocked over the tank, and the frogs went out of the water. They were NOT happy, but they lived. They were out for maybe...1-2 hours?

  2. These frogs are fully aquatic. There's no need for any type of land or island for them. The only time the come "out" of the water is when they shoot up to the top to breath air.

No they do not breath water, they don't have gills to do that so don't fill the tank up to high to the point where they can't breath. Make sure though that the water is low enough from the top so that they don't accidentally escape. If they're out of the water to long, they'll dry up and more than likely die. Keeping the water at a low level helps prevent the attempt of escaping from the tank.

  3. no.not true. they just come up for air
