Question:

African Fat Tailed Gecko Substrate? ?

Okay - so I know that loose substrate can be pretty dangerous for Leopard Geckos and until now AFT. I've read that peat can be a good substrate as it helps maintain the humidity in the vivarium. If this is a huge no no, would just keeping a humidity box be enough? It allows the gecko to use it when it needs to??

Thanks in advance

  1. Use paper towels for a substrate and then have a humid hide with vermiculite sprayed down in it. You should also have a dry hide and then have another dry hide on the cool side of the tank.

  2. Peat moss is fine for them as a moist retreat.

What I would suggest for the main substrate is using either something like Bed-a-Beast (which is safe for african fat tails) OR something like Repticarpet, and keep a little cave/log with the peat moss for them to retreat to.

    Good luck =)
