  1. Congo greys are better at speech and sounds. Go on youtube and do a search for African greys. The smartest birds are the Congo Grey's. The worlds smartest bird was a Congo Grey. He knew colors and textures and could tell you which was which.  Timnehs imitate sounds and speech, Congo Grey's duplicate speech and sounds. There are a lot more examples of Congo Grey's with large vocabulary's.  My ADT guy was fooled for ten minutes after disconnecting my alarm ,the bird still made the sounds from the other room and the guy was amazed that my alarm worked without power. I took him in the other room and showed him my congo grey (12 yo rescue) and he could not believe the sounds were exact replicas of the real alarm.

  2. The only real difference between them is size, colouration and origin.

Congos have a dark coloured beak, silvery feathers and a bright red tail, while Timnehs have a bone-coloured upper beak, are darker all over and have a maroon tail.  The congos grow larger than the timnehs, too.  Otherwise, there's no difference in intelligence or temperment.

Because African Greys live in various parts of the African continent, different populations develop different appearances.

  3. For the most part I agree with the answer above, however many believe there are slight differences in temperament and personality between the two.

TAGs tend to be somewhat less high strung than CAGs.

That means less likely to be spooked a lot, less likely to be nervous about new people or changes in their environment,  and maybe even less likely to pluck from stress.

I have a Tinmeh and she is wonderful!  Calm, sweet, talks some, imitates lots of sounds, etc.  Never plucks, never seems jittery or nervous.  She's 15 years old too, and I was not her first owner.

Also many say that the males of both species are better talkers than the females of either species.  I think this tends to be true....
