  1. A lot of it is lost, because of slavery. Owners tried to wipe out slaves past indenties to control them better. Which really was bad. People should know their past as well as be free. Many slaves took owners last names. Not all of it was as the book "Roots" proved. Anyone from Liberia could well be from America and back. Liberia was largely founded by freed slaves as an experiment of returning to Africa. In the early 1800's. There was a cankertous and rich Tennessee slave owner. He did have a lot of children from slave women, named Montgomery Bell. He never married. Sounds like a real exploiter. Maybe he was, but when he died he freed all his slaves and provided his fortune to resettle them in Liberia. Really disappointed a lot of greedy nieces and nephews I believe. They were looking forward to inheriting it, including a lot of cousins!

  2. Mine are from Liberia, but my parents were born there :)  It is believed that the tribe was nomadic and has lived in Ethiopia, Western Sudan and Egypt.
