Question:

African dwarf frog aquarium issues?

I'm pet-sitting, and the parents told me before they left that if anything happened to any of the fish, to just replace it so the little girl wouldn't be upset. They have an african dwarf frog in a 2 gallon tank with a neon tetra, and this morning i found the frog dead. I bought a new frog and have it separated for now, but how should i go about introducing it into the tank?

I'm guessing some bacterial infection killed Kermit I, so i should probably clean the tank, right? Tips? Any precautions to take because of the tetra, etc? (for example, under different circumstances i might put a little aquarium salt in, but I know neon tetras don't like it.)

  1. I would just condition the water really well.

The likely reason for it dying is the fact of it being in such a small tank.

They usually tend to need a 10g and at least a 5g - just on their own.

Make sure the water is the same temperature and just dump him in. My guess is since you have him separated, and have had him separated for some time that he is no longer in a bag to regulate temp.

It may die again, continuing to replace it would be up to you, but I would only do it a couple of times and then explain that it just cannot be done.
