African grey claws ???

i have an african grey and earlier today we noticed that his claws were long and kept gettin stuck on the bars of his cage, so we took him out to trim them on some claw cutters we got, all was goin well until i was on his last claw n he moved his foot makin me catch his claw n makin it bleed i put pressure on it and it soon stopped, he has been movin around his cage well i am just worried that he will b injured does anyone know anythin about this

  1. You should get a Styptic pencil or Styptic powder from the Chemists. You just apply it to the area that's bleeding and it helps to clot the blood so that it stops.

    Birds don't have a lot of blood, so even a small amount lost can cause anaemia and can result in death.

    As long as the blood flow has stopped then he'll be fine.

    My African Grey broke one of his claws and I had to apply the Styptic pencil to stop the blood loss, but then he was alright.

    I take Bob to the vets for his nails cutting, I feel happier about them doing, I'm scared of cutting them too short and causing him to bleed.


  2. for birds the correct styptic is called Kwik stop.(a coagulent, i guess)
