OK so normally I use a relaxer every 6 weeks......for the past years maybe like 5 years. But I was wondering if I would get the same results if I just put some anti breakage shampoo(Tresseme), a Deep conditioner(Aussie), a Leave in conditioner, some heat protectant, then blow dry and flat iron my hair. I never used a flat iron on my hair before so I was just wondering if I would get the same results because it would be easier to grow my hair longer this way I assume. And every week I would put in some John Frieda Relaxing Creme. And lastly If I decide to flat iron my hair how often would I have to straighten it to get results like I do with my relaxer.(every day ? every 2 days? every week?)Thanks in advance.=]

  1. Unfortunately, your hair is already damaged from the relaxer (chemical relaxers damage ALL hair to some extent) and all of the manipulation, product build up and flat ironing you would have to do to achieve the same hair texture as your relaxed hair would only make the condition of your hair WORSE. The reason why this wont work is because after a while of not using a relaxer, your newgrowth/natural/healthy hair will begin to grow and once you flat iron it, the relaxed hair will be straighter than your natural hair. Your relaxed hair will also begin to look damaged in comparison to your natural hair..that's just how VASTLY different the hair textures are. The relaxed hair will look limp, damaged and fried (because it is) and the natural hair will look health, thick and wont be as straight.

This leaves you with only two options: Either a) transition to natural hair so your hair will be healthier and just use a flat iron to straighten your hair or b) continue to use the relaxer despite the fact that it IS damaging your hair. The transition to natural hair is long, and you would eventually have to cut off the relaxed ends..though.
