African table tennis receives a boost with international media coverage – Table Tennis News
The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and Super Sport channel have recently signed a contract to cover all table tennis tournaments throughout Africa.
This agreement will bring fruitful results for the ITTF to increase their number of viewers, in every continent of the world. This move will indeed be a major boast for table tennis in Africa.
The ITTF has made the agreement as a part of their strategic planning, which includes other channels like the TMS International and Total Sport Asia. Such partnerships will defiantly help the sport, as it will get major international coverage.
President of the ITTF, Adham Sharara said, “I am delighted that ITTF events will now be available on African TV screens, this has been a long-term goal of our Federation to provide top event access to our African member associations.”
These partnerships will increase the importance of continental competitions in Africa, which is held under the ITTF as the brand name for the competitions. The move is a great effort made by the marketing division of ITTF and the Marketing and Media partners
TMS International and Total Sport Asia.
The coverage will give African table tennis players to be recognised on the international level.
President of Sport Asia, Steve Dainton, has been working hard on marketing issues in Africa since 2010. He has played an important role in the exposure of sports on international level. The main focus of the move was to highlight the event on a higher level
and to convince broadcasters to buy live bids for the competition.
Dainton further said, "With the support of the ITTF - Africa President, Khaled El-Salhy, we have made quick and impressive progress”.
African table tennis has been in an inactive stage since the last few years. It has recently gained popularity due to ITTF ranking events, which were staged in the continent in recent times. Current President of the African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF),
Khalid El-Salhy, hopes that the coverage will be a great opportunity for African players to be recognised on international level.
Media is the strongest mode of communication in the world today. Sports channels are viewed by people of all ages and with live coverage of matches from the African continent, the players will have a better chance to make an impact at the international level.
Super Sports are one of the popular sports channel in the world and it is broadcasted in more than 15 channels across Africa. It also sells their coverage to major sports channels across the globe. With live coverage, table tennis players in Africa should
be upbeat about the initiative and try their best to make full use of the opportunity given to them.
