Afridi and Waqar wanted Shoaib Malik in the squad not Younis
Once again the suggestions of Pakistan cricket coach, Waqar Younis and limited-over’s captain Shahid Khan Afridi regarding injured Mohammad Yousuf’s replacement have been ignored by the selectors says a report.
According to the report, published in a local newspaper of Pakistan, Waqar and Afridi wanted all-rounder Shoaib Malik to replace injured Mohammad Yousuf for the one day International series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. But
the board and selectors, ignoring duo’s suggestion, recalled former captain, Younis Khan, to the side after clearing his name for selection after some nine months.
The Test veteran of Pakistan, Younis Khan, met the Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 on Wednesday to resolve the unsettled issues with the board and was cleared for selection. Soon after Younis’ meeting with PCB chief, he was picked
for the limited-over squad as Mohammad Yousuf’s replacement, who has been ruled out of the limited-over leg of the tour, after he ruptured a muscle in his right leg.
The report claimed that Waqar and Afridi had instead asked for the inclusion of all-rounder Shoaib Malik in the squad for the team’s two T20 and five ODIs against the Proteas to be played in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033.
"http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board and the national selectors did not agree with the suggestions coming from the captain and the coach, and opted to go for Younis Khan's inclusion in the team," read the report.
The report further said that both the coach and the captain were of the view that Shoaib Malik could have been handy for the trembling Pakistan side in the T20 and one-day fixtures given his utility as a bowler as well batsman.
Younis’s inclusion to the limited-over squad has raised various questions as the middle-order batsman is a Test cricket specialist and enjoys an outstanding average of over 50 in the format as compared to his 32 plus one-day batting average.
There are also several question marks regarding Younis’s form after spending more than nine months away from all forms of international cricket. He will now have to prove his mettle in ODIs to be considered for November’s two-match Test
series.
Younis http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohsin-c77587 Khan, has originally been picked for only the one-day series and might play in the five-day leg of the tour to UAE if he proves his form ahead of the series.
Pakistan team will leave for Dubai late night today.
Whilst his teammates are testing their nerves against the Proteas in UAE, Malik would be leading a team in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hong-Kong-c2919 Sixes tournament to be played next month.
