Shahid Afridi was suspended for two matches for ball tampering after biting the cricket ball in Pakistan’s final ODI against Australia in January 2010. But with a previous record including pitch tampering in 2005 the question has to be asked: was the two match suspension (the maximum available penalty) handed down to the stand-in captain enough? Surely, a repeat offender should be handed a longer ban – perhaps double that available for a first offence.
