Afridi dropped from the 50-over format – Cricket News Update
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the One Day International (ODI) and T20 squads for the upcoming tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haris-Sohail-c61503 and Anwar Ali, have been given a chance to prove their credentials in the high-profile competition.
Some of the other players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asad-Shafiq-c46208 missing out due to a finger injury, which occurred during the recently-concluded Faysal Bank T20 Tournament 2012-13 in Lahore.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wahab-Riaz-c95839 has also made a comeback to the team, although he was written-off after a poor performance in an Asia Cup 2012 fixture against India at Dhaka.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Iqbal-Qasim-c76980, the chief selector of the PCB expressed, while announcing the ODI squad, that excluding Afridi from the team was an extremely difficult move and he still believes that BOOM BOOM can return to the 50-over format if he performs well in T20 Internationals and domestic cricket.
The former left-arm spinner further added that the selection committee is looking to build a team for future and will continue to give chances to new players.
“Dropping Afridi was a difficult decision,” Qasim said at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. “He is no doubt a great player and has the ability to win a game, but the decision has been taken in the interest of the team. We did retain him in the T20 squad and if he performs well he can win back his ODI place in the future. Meanwhile, we are looking for a youngster as Afridi's replacement and I am sure we will find the right man soon from the domestic circuit.”
