Afridi’s career not finished says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Iqbal-Qasim-c76980 – Cricket News Update
Despite being omitted from the Champions Trophy squad, Pakistan’s chief selector Iqbal Qasim has asserted that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 Afridi’s career is far from finished and the player can stage a comeback, provided he starts performing at the domestic level.
"His career is not finished, if he performs at domestic level, he can stage a comeback. He is an asset to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, and as long as a player is performing he keeps on playing, if he doesn't perform he goes out of the team."
It has been the second time that the player has been omitted from a high profile limited-overs tour in the past five months. Afridi was left out of the ODI trip to India in December 2012 following an under par year, where his form dipped drastically with
both, bat and ball.
However, his experience of the foreign condition helped him get the nod for the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 but that too ended in a disappointment after the all-rounder failed to pick up a single wicket in five attempts. Since the beginning of 2012, Afridi has
managed just 308 runs in 21 matches, and has taken just 15 wickets at 57.13.
Despite the poor performance, he was included in the probable list of the Champions Trophy but when that list was eventually trimmed to 15, the selectors could not find a place for the all-rounder. Instead they injected new blood in the shape of Ehsan Adil,
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asad-Ali-c46178, with an aim to give them exposure of foreign conditions.
While Qasim has reiterated that Afridi’s career is not finishing, the general consensus is that the writing is certainly on the wall for the great cricketer.
"Had he scored at the domestic level he could have earned the place," Qasim said. "It's always difficult to drop such a senior player but ultimately selectors have to take a decision for the sake of the team."
Qasim is also confident about his team’s chances in the Champions Trophy, which pits the Men In Green against the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 and South Africa.
"Pakistan always has a good record in the international events and I am hopeful that the players will play at their potential to produce good results."
