Afridi announced his retirement following a feud with Waqar Younis, while on tour of the West Indies in May, which consequently led the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board to get involve and fined the all-rounder a hefty sum of money.
However, with the resignation of the coach and IJaz Butt’s tenure as the chairman of PCB coming to a close due to the appointment of top banker, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, Afridi earlier in the week announced that he is available for selection for the upcoming national
team assignments.
Waqar, who cited personal and health reasons for not prolonging his stay with the team, has now come out and said that he had no problem with the former ODI skipper, and appreciated Afridi’s decision to play for his county. However, he admitted that the
situation could have been handled better by both the parties.
"The team needs Afridi and his decision is appreciable, however the bitter dispute between Afridi and board officials should not have been erupted in the first place. Both the parties should have talked it out behind closed doors," Waqar said.
"Revealing the matter to the media was inappropriate, players as well as board officials should refrain from this practice in the future," he added.
A devastating fast-bowler in his time, Waqar served as the head coach from March 2010 and in his tenure, he led the team to the semi-finals of the 2011 World Cup, along with wins against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.
However, his reign marked off-field controversies, which included the spot-fixing scandal that took place in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, and more importantly a public row with Afridi.
He is now seen doing commentary in the ongoing series, which sees the Men In Green battling out with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the first of the three Test matches. After the conclusion of the five-day series, both teams will battle in a 5 One Dayers, and it will be interesting
to see whether the management selects Afridi.
