Afrodite Kyranakou and Jeske Kisters secure regatta title at 2012 470 Junior World Championship
Despite the windy conditions on Auckland waters, the Dutch pair of Afrodite Kyranakou and Jeske Kisters was able to claim the 2012 470 Junior World Championship after securing 21 points with three bullets in 11 races, including a discard and a medal race.
The event was hosted by Royal Akarana Yacht Club. The duo was compiling comprehensive scores from the very first day which paid them off in the end.
The weather forecast throughout the regatta was ideal despite some shifts in the breeze on a couple of occasions. The waters were lumpy along with a moderate north easterly breeze that blew around up to 15 knots over the racing course.
The 10-boat Women fleet completed all scheduled races due to ideal wind conditions. However, the weather did fluctuate during the regatta but it was not strong enough to trouble proceedings.
Kyranakou and Kisters of Netherlands retained their top podium place with 21 points. Trailing behind them on second place with just a three-point difference were defending champions, Annika Bochmann and Elisabeth Panuschka of Germany. Meanwhile, Anna Burnet
and Flora Stewart clinched the third position with 31 points.
