Afrodite Kyranakou and Jeske Kisters secure top spot at 2012 470 Junior World Championship: Day 4
Dutch pair of Afrodite Kyranakou and Jeske Kisters has managed to stay on top of the 470 Women fleet standings after a consistent display of their unique sailing skills on Waitemata Harbour waters. The championship successfully completed the fourth day of
its proceedings at the Takapuna Boating Club on Auckland’s North Shore with two perfect races.
The participants in the 470 Junior Women’s fleet launched their boats into Waitemata waters under moderate winds. The first race took a bit of time to finish as the winds were not supportive. However, the breeze built up a little at the start of the second
race.
Kyranakou and Kisters were consistent during the fourth day and managed to grab the second podium finish in both races to retain the leading podium spot with 11 points after sailing in eight races, including a discard. So far in the championship, the duo
has collected three bullets and three second finishes. The only lower score they earned was a fifth position in the third race that went into the discard account.
The Dutch are being closely followed by Annika Bochman and Elisabeth Panuschka, the pair who grabbed the female World Championship last year. The German team, with three bullets in their championship run has earned 16 points so far and has hit the second
spot overall. Great Britain’s Anna Burnet and Flora Stewart have managed to claim third place with just a one-point difference from the Germans at 17 points.
Four more races have been scheduled for the next two days and the weather during the upcoming contests is expected to be favourable.
