After 16 months layoff, Trickmeister grabbed the first opportunity he was presented with to keep his undefeated record intact in the Harlan’s Holiday
The 4-year-old Richard Dutrow trained, Trickmeister, made it look as if he wasn’t away from the races at all as he nullified his absence from the racing arena for 16 months with a win in the $60,000 Harlan’s Holiday over a distance
of 1 1/16 miles at Gulfstream Park’s dirt course on 17 December, 2011, against seven other colts and geldings who were 3-year-old and above.
The Kentucky bred son of Proud Citizen, out of mare Afternoon Trick by Afternoon Deelites, Trickmeister showed his potential for stardom with a dominating victory against runners like Boys at Tosconova, Duke of Mischief, who headlined
the Harlan’s Holiday before the race and Sky Venture.
With the win in the Harlan’s Holiday, IEAH Stables owned Trickmeister extended his victories to five, and still remained undefeated in as many starts.
The 4-year-old colt remained undefeated in the whole of 2010, where he easily put aside his debut race in first asking at Del Mar and then stayed at the same venue to post 2 more victories on the trot, including his first stakes win,
the Barbaro Stakes, run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on 10 July, 2010, defeating Not Aboard in second and Colizeo in third while covering the 1 1/16 mile distance in 1 minute and 45.32 seconds.
He capped off his 2012 campaign with a win in the 1 1/8 miles long Pleasant Colony Stakes at Saratoga on 27 August, 2010 on dirt. He got stretched out in distance further more than his previous start, but the result was the same as
he covered the 1 1/8 mile distance in 1 minute and 48.91 seconds.
“He showed us what we were hoping to see. We weren’t looking to put on a show, just to go out there and do it the right way,” said trainer Rick Dutrow. “I think he’s come back solid like his issues are behind him. He’s got a ton of
talent.”
“He was really impressive today.  He was coming off a long layoff and this was the first time I’ve ever ridden him.  He did everything really professionally,” said Castellano. “He broke sharp and just cruised on the lead.  I have
to give all the credit to Rick Dutrow.  This horse was 100 percent fit to go a mile and a sixteenth off over a year layoff.”
