After 6 months of ACL repair with donor graft, will it hurt if it tears again?

I torn my ACL about 7 months ago and a donor graft was used insted of my own for various reasons, Im about to starting runing again but Im a bit scared of it tearing again, will I feel it if it does tear? Are my nerves already attached to this new ligament?

I don't know who or where the rehab was done but the most important thing for a female is to strengthen the hamstrings.  Studies have shown that ACL tears in women are a result of weak hamstrings.  So one of the most important factor before being discharged is to make sure that the hamstrings are stronger than before the injury.  That judgement is made by comparing the strength of the uninjured leg virus the injured one.  You want to work on strengthening before running.  The chances of retearing are small but if you work on the hamstrings the odds will go down even further.  Talk to your therapist about strengthening exercises.  At six months things should be ready to go if the rehab has been complete.


  2. Get a good knee brace. It should hold up but I'm sure you will feel it if it tears again. I had the hamstring surgery and mine has been fine, I run and do whatever I want. I had surgery about 2 years ago.
