After facing legal action from Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, the out of favour Proteas opener, Herschelle Gibbs, may face the wrath of his fellow cricketers for allegations levelled against them by Gibbs in his litigious autobiography 'To the Point'.
This was revealed by the chief executive of the South African Cricket Players' Association, Mr. Tony Irish, on Thursday while talking to a local sports agency.
Irish said that the allegations made by Gibbs against his teammates might get him into further trouble. He said that he has spoken to the chief executive of Cricket South Africa upon the issue “...there is a process which must now run its
course", said Irish.
The chief executive of the South African Cricket Players' Association further added that since Gibbs is still a contracted South African cricketer, it is important for him to be careful in his interviews about the autobiography that was
published on Monday, 1st of November.
The Cricket South Africa on Wednesday announced that it is planning to take legal action against the opener and has sought legal advice on the book in this regard. The CSA had also issued a warning to its players to avoid making any kind
of comments on the allegations made by Gibbs against them.
"CSA has tasked its Legal Counsel to look into the matter and to advise us accordingly. Everybody concerned (CSA management and players) needs to wait for the outcome of CSA's processes which will be announced as soon as the Board has taken
a view or a decision on the matter", Gerald Majola, the CSA chief executive had said in a statement.
Majola further added that all stakeholders, including players, should avoid expressing views before the CSA Board takes a decision in this regard. The CEO told the media person that he has not yet read the controversial book that is making
the headlines so cannot comment on what is being reported by the press.
Gibbs has made some derogatory statements in his autobiography about collective sexual rendezvous during foreign tours, grouping in the team as well as drug and alcohol abuse.
Proteas’ One Day and Test skipper Graeme Smith is the main target of Gibbs in his autobiography, who according to the writer “was simply too powerful”. He has alleged that a clique comprising Smith, all-rounder Jacques Kallis, wicketkeeper
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 and Mark Boucher were controlling the South Africa team, causing division in the dressing room.
Graeme Smith, who is currently in Dubai with his team to play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in a series of T20, ODI and Test matches, acknowledged that the side was "hurt" by Gibbs’s revelations.
The all-rounder Jacques Kallis has welcomed any action against Gibbs by the CSA.
"I understand Kallis is reasonably upset and that he would welcome any action against me by CSA", said Gibbs in an interview. "Fortunately Boucher is not too angry. He has been through the book already and reckons it is not as serious as
the media have made it out to be", he added.
Gibbs’ former teammate Daryll Cullinan responded irately in a column written with a local newspaper, declining the claims made by Gibbs that he (Cullinan) had spilt the beans on a marijuana-smoking gathering led by the out of favour Proteas
opener during a tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
The autobiography has given Gibbs fame number of times more than he got during his career as a star Proteas opener. Daily radio interviews and public speaking engagements have made him a South African celebrity.
