After French Open loss, Venus Williams wants to win Wimbledon Championship 2010
Why Venus Williams earns greater success at Wimbledon as compared to the French Open has one evident justification - One is played on grass, a quick surface that highlights the best features of her game where as the French Open is played on clay which is a little more gentle surface that dries the influence of her over whelming serves as well as her ground strokes.
Here, then, is another side to observe it: Wimbledon which is a darling Grand Slam event for Williams comes just days after the French Open which is not an ideal condition for sure. The pain is still fresh for Williams due to a prompt departure from Roland Garros, where play muffled up just about some two weeks ago. She enters the All England Club with some nervous bones in her body which starts on Monday.
In an interview, Williams agreed that Grand Slam tournaments are not organised in a back-to-back scenario with just a break of about two weeks. So it’s simple and somehow natural to carry on with the losing or winning momentum from one tournament to the next one, which in this case happens to be Wimbledon.
Williams has a tight schedule in the coming days as well. Apart from tennis, her new book by the name of ''Come to Win: Business Leaders, Doctors, Artists and other Visionaries on How Sports Can guide You Top Your Profession'' will soon be released towards the end of this month.
Co-author Kelly E. Carter along with Williams interviewed more than fifty people and took their views on the significance of sports in their lives. Former President Bill Clinton, fashion designer Vera Wang, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, former General Electric Co. CEO Jack Welch and former professional athletes such as, Roger Staubach, Magic Johnson and Billie Jean King are some of the contributors to her book.
Her print work focuses on the importance of sports in the lives of the general public, how sports can keep the youngsters healthy and what lessons can be learned from it.
Venus has been active in the media circles due to the launch - an effort that created some jitters in the tennis stars mind. When questioned about experiencing negative comments from the larger audiences while compiling the book, Williams giggled.
According to her, nobody wants to lose, but there is a general agreement on the fact that losing at times teaches an equally powerful lesson of what winning is all about. It was a common statement for sure.
While talking about losing in the preface of her book, Williams commented that it hurts equally deep every time she loses a game and her face also reflects her intense emotions in some way or the other.
However, at Wimbledon, the track record of Williams is good enough. She has succeeded in a majority of the tournaments, by making her way into eight of the last ten finals over there and eventually claiming the title on five consecutive occasions.
The 30-year-old American loves playing on grass and is certainly her favourite surface for sure. Moreover, what makes Wimbledon much more comfortable for Williams is her high winning rate in the tournament. However, this is not the case with French Open as it is the only main event where Williams has not made it into the semi-final match at least twice in her career yet.
On 30th May, 2010 Williams was knocked out in the fourth round of the French Open, an act which has been repeated by her for the sixth time in the last eight years. In a similar manner, her sister Serena Williams has never succeeded consistently in the French Open than any other tournament. It is the only single title in a Grand Slam event that she has not grabbed at least thrice in her career.
Oracene Price, the mother of the William’s sisters said that both of her dolls will utilize the French Open loss to pump themselves at Wimbledon. On the other hand, tennis fans all over the world have high hopes for the upcoming Wimbledon Championships from Serena in particular and Venus in general. Hopefully, they will come up with a different and more positive attitude to shine the stage once again.
