Question:

After NROTC, am I required to serve on reserve?

I'm a junior in high school and I'm really interested in joining the Navy as active duty. Now, I have a question regarding NROTC in college. From what my friends tell me, after graduating NROTC, you must serve at least 8 years of commissioned service as active duty and reserve.

My question is, am I obligated to serve in the USNR or can I just serve on active duty?

I am still a little unsure if I should go through NROTC while I'm in college or if I should just wait until graduation to enter OCS. Any help will be appreciated, especially from graduates of NROTC, active duty, or retired sailors.

  1. You need to serve 8 years of comissioned service but you don't need to serve on reserve. Just make sure that you stay on active duty for the rest of your Navy career, at least 10 years.

  2. IDK 'I think you need to do the 4/4 thats what am doing in the NATIONAL GUARD.

you can do 4 years reserve/and 4 years active.

  3. Its a combination of 8 years active and reserve. 6 years active and 2 reserve. The reserve requirement goes away if you stay active
