Maybe pride, but I think more so Roger took too  much on himself this year - golden slam and all. I also don't think he plays enough tennis. How many months off has he taken this year?

And you're right, he's no longer the favorite. The ball is now in Nadal's court to become number one. Federer just lost a chunk of points. A decent showing in the US Open and Nadal is number one. He might even get it before that.
