Sure, Tom Brokaw hosted it earlier today but everyone knows he won't be a permanent replacement for the show.

  1. I don't know. They were speculating on this on Larry King the other night and no one had an answer. Russert is irreplaceable.

If I could pick someone, I think Ted Koppel would be a great replacement. I'd love to see him on the air in a significant way again.

  2. I believe that David Gregory will replace him as anchor of Meet the Press. His show on MSNBC (Race to the White House) greatly resembles the panel episodes of MTP and he has a strong reporting style.

One of my favorite qualities of Russert was his ability to ask the tough questions and get answers. After watching David Gregory for a while, I think he has that same ability.

Gregory is also well connected in Washington because of his tenure as White House correspondent. He may have made some enemies, but conservatives and liberals respect him. If he were the host, Gregory could book some good guests.

  3. It's too soon to guess who that will be.  Each time significant people have passed many say they not replaceable.  But they are, oh not as exact copies, but people do replace them using their own unique attributes.

I find it interesting to consider who will replace William F. Buckley Jr.

Think about the various hosts of the Tonight Show.

    Steve Allen

    Jack Parr

    Johnny  Carson

Each was unique and no one thought that they could be replaced, but they were replaced.

I suspect that they will go through many different host starting with those most well known, but I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be someone not well know today.

  4. Rush limbaugh

  5. Eric Jon Phelps

  6. NBC will have to change the show dramatically.  There is not another Tim in the world.

A few people could do a good job, albeit with a different flavour to the show.

    Gwen Ifil

    David Gregory

    George Stephanopoulos

Margaret Warner (off PBS News Hour)

    Anderson Cooper

Perhaps Campbell Brown.  She's pretty young but seems to have the smarts.

  7. The only ones worthy of the job are either Keith Olbermann or Jon Stewart.  Preferably Stewart.

  8. It will be Nancy Grace.
