I sing a little for my job and Now I can't sing as high as I used to before I screamed and cheered two nights ago. My throat feels scratched and a little dry. How can I restore my voice and get it back to normal? Or Do I need To just give it time? Any suggestions?

  1. Folk remedies like tea with lemon or honey do nothing to help an abused voice to recover. In fact, such "remedies" prolong the healing process.

Your vocal cords are swollen and raw from the yelling you did at the game, hence the scratchy and dry sensations.

The vocal cords are covered with a jello-like substance that allows for the very fine pitch changes the health human voice is capable of. Yelling causes the gelatinous layer to be damaged and disappear.

The only thing you can do to allow your cords to repair is to observe strict voice rest. This includes:

NO yelling, singing, humming, coughing, throat-clearing, or laughing (all cause the cords to bang together)'

Speak as little as is humanly possible.

DO NOT drink carbonated beverages, cold drinks, or hot drinks. Room temperature beverages are best, as they won't trigger a coughing fit (easily done because of the already irritated area).

It should only take a week to 10 days for your vocal cords to heal.

  2. Honey and rest. It works trust me

  3. drink lots of tea with honey,

don't talk much, and just let your throat heal for a few days and it should be fine.
