My guinea pig has been showing signs of labor for 3 days now and her hips have finally shifted into place, she has been having contractions on and off for 3 days and I've been watching her very closely.

When I got her I didn't know that she was pregnant or that she had even been with a male at all, she is probably 8 to 9 months old and this is her second batch of babies. Her first produced only one baby, this time she looks as though she could be having 3 or more. I have noticed the babies moving a lot the past fer days and I can count 3 separate spots at the same time for movement.

I have had her in a separate box watching her but last night I put her back in the cage with the other female, she is about a year old and has never had babies, never mated either. I got her because the breeder didn't want her. She had been in a cage with a male for 9 months and nothing, they wouldn't mate or anything so I brought her home. I'm hoping that she will comfort and help the pregnant pig.

  1. That site covered a lot. But yeah, you will need a bigger cage. They won't fight or anything, but it would be nice for the piggies. They like 4 square feet per pig, but if you can't do that, at least add one grid on. Good luck and congratulations with the new babies!

This explains a contraction along with some other information about piggy labor.

Leave her with her fellow guinea pig, she will not hurt the babies, if anything she will help out, otherwise they dont notice them.

You can pick the babies up from the second they are born, the mom wont eat them.

All males must be seperated from the females at 21 days old.
