After a caslicks repair why would a mare still be wind sucking? What else can be done to keep her doing this?

  1. Ok think you are talking about wind sucking in regards to her genital area...at least I hope so or my answer will not sound good.

    First thing I would do is check to make sure she healed properly and did not tear before she was fully healed. When you lift her tail you need to gently inspect her vulvular area. The top of the area should be sealed with just a small opening at the bottom. Most mares will stand for this but if you aren't sure make sure you have a kick barricade in place for safety. If there is abnormal discharge, swelling or the top of the area is still open then there was a problem with the caslicks repair and it needs to be redone.

    I have not heard of any other way to stop a mare windsucking other than this procedure but I could be wrong. Good luck!

    also the good old strap around her neck

    I hate wind suckers sometimes you can never cure them !
