After a disappointing run in the Woodward Stakes, Mambo Meister is pointed to the Spend a Buck Handicap at Calder
Given to trainer Philip Gleaves by Quantum Racing Team, the 6-year-old gelding Mambo Meister wound up seventh in the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes is coming back to set the records straight in the Grade 3 Spend a Buck Handicap at the Calder racecourse on 15 October.
Prior to the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes, who the 4-year-old filly Havre de Grace won against all the boys, Mambo Meister was on the right track, winning back to back stakes races at the Calder racecourse.
After when he rolled in second in the Memorial Day Handicap at Calder on 30 May, 2011, at about 1 1/16 miles on dirt and got beaten by Motovato, Mambo Meister came back with a bang.
Making every other alternative start on turf, his connections opted to run him in the Mecke Stakes on grass over a distance of 1 1/8 miles on 25 June.
Mambo Meister aced the track, defeating John Johny Jack and Wingedlie with winning time of 1 minute and 53.05 seconds.
The son of King Cugat, out of Bleu’slittlesecret by Desert Secret, wasn’t finished there as he geared up for another stakes race called the Primal Stakes on dirt, and the versatile older runner took on the distance of 1 1/16 miles under his regular jockey
F Jara.
On 24 July, 2011, Mambo Meister took out Wingedlie yet again and Hear Ye Hear Ye, to top the distance of 1 1/16 miles in a quick 1 minute and 45.17 seconds.
For the Spend a Buck Handicap, Mambo Meister breezed an easy three furlongs in 36.88 seconds on 24 September, and then galloped a good half a mile in 49.22 seconds.
Mambo Meister tuned in his first work out since his defeat in the Woodward Stakes at Saratoga. Phil Gleaves admitted that the Woodward Stakes turned out to be a disappointment, after he was coming off two good performances at Calder, Mambo Meister was expected
to do well.
The son of King Cugat bagged his 11th win in the Primal Stakes, with the lifetime earnings of $664,000 for the Quantum Racing Team.
