After a house is sold, what happens next?

I am going through probate and I have to sell the house I am living in. But I don't know what happens after it is sold.

Can I stay in the house for a little time before I have to vacate and the new owners move in?

When will I get the check from the sale?: After I vacate OR before I vacate?

Thanks for your help.

  1. Your sale is like any other, you will have to wait and see what the buyers will want, most will expect the house to be vacant upon closing.

The exectutor will get the check and disburse funds to you shortly after.

  2. When you close on a house the day you close you have to be out of the house and ready to turn the keys over to the new owners unless you make an arrangement with the buyers to stay in the house past closing, if you do then you will have to pay the buyers rent, and that's only if they are willing to rent it out to you, if they want to move in then you'll have to be out on closing day.  You will receive your money the day of closing.
