After a long injury related spell, Awesome Feather is ready to make her 3-year-old debut in Le Slew Stakes

The 2-year-old champion filly, Awesome Feather, had been sidelined for 11 months due to a tendon injury as her new owner and trainer had to wait that long to see her heal and make a comeback to the races.
She hasn’t run all year, but her 2010 flawless record speaks for itself as she was named the 2-year-old champion filly, with 6 wins in as many starts.
She will be looking to do it seven of seven when she returns to the races in the $60,000 Le Slew Stakes restricted for 3-year-old fillies.
Awesome Feather will make her 3-year-old debut at Belmont Park, a track which she hasn’t run on before, and had made her 5 starts out of 6 lifetime starts at Calder racecourse, where she had most of her success.
After getting the 2010 Eclipse Award as North America’s Champion 2-year-old filly, Awesome Feather was put on for sale by her previous owner and breeder, Fred Brei, and she was purchased for a whopping $2.3 million by her current owner, Frank Stronach.
Now conditioned by Chad Brown, who took the filly out of training when a lesion in her tendon was found.
The 3-year-old filly Awesome Feather returned to the work tab in May but because of some other issues, trainer Chad Brown had to stop on her for a second time.
The amazing will to fight back has proven to be the catalyst for Awesome Feather as she returned to the training in August and it really impressed Brown.
The injury prone filly owes much to her owner, Frank Stronach, as the experienced owner showed immense faith in her while some other horseman would have retired her by now.
However, Stronach stuck with her and kept giving her chances to make a comeback.
Back in 2010, Awesome Feather won the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies in her last start appearance for the season.
The 1 1/16 miles distance was topped by the champion filly in 1 minute and 45.13 seconds on 5 November, 2010, at Churchill Downs.
