So I was just wondering, after exercise, are we suppose to do stretching right after we've done running, or are we suppose to wait a bit?

And what kind of stretching should I do after running?

  1. best time to stretch is after a run, which youll notice you can actually stretch further.. You dont have to do it right after you run but probably 10-15minutes after at the most..You want to be still warm, or you are kind of missing the point..you stretch before to get loose and so you dont hurt yourself, you stretch after to prevent soreness and ot become more flexible..

  2. Different schools of thought. You can stretch before a workout run, but you should stretch after any workout.

I really don't stretch prior to run, I run to warm up then get into the run.

But after the run, you're tight, and you need to stretch out those muscles you worked on (running or weights or swim or bike, etc).

Hamstring stretches, calf stretches and even back stretches are good to end a run with.

  3. I would say right after, but I actually find it better to stretch right before or both.

    Stretchs include:

    Toe touchs

    butterfly sits

modified hurdelers (butterfly except extend one leg and reach towards it)

"playboy"Extend one leg, bend the other and place the foot on the other side of the extended leg and turn your body opposite the direction the crossed leg is going, or pull the crossed leg towards your body)

  4. cool down then stretch

  5. well you should stretch right before and after your done running you should do jumping jacks and probably do leg stretches

  6. ideally you should recover after running for 10% of the time you ran, so if you ran 30 mins recover for 3 mins, then go for a VERY easy very light jog for about 600-800 meters, (about half a mile) and just make sure that you stretch your hamstrings Calf and Quads The basic stretches should work, also stretch your arms a little, they don't need to be stretched as much as the legs, but they work to when running, espicially when someone is tired, so give them a quick stretch too.

    Good luck

  7. you are supposed to jog a little for a warm up maybe a mile but if just startin jog a 800 then stretch your legs and arms. you should also stretch after your workout so you dont get sore or pull something

  8. u r supposed to do a jog and then strech... (leg streaching) u r supposed to do it right after a jog.

    hope that helps!

  9. Cool Down

Jog 800 meters or more if doing a longer interval day or an easier run day.

On a short intense interval day you may walk 800 meters or so.

    Stretching -

Do all the stretches:  2 times for 15 to 18 seconds except for the Dr. Dan Davis Wall Stretch do 10 times. (Stand about 10 inches away from a wall with feet shoulder width apart, poit your toes in towards each other than keeping your legs straight rest your hips up against the wall. you will feel it in your calves.

    Calves

    Dr. Davis wall stretch only

    Quads

Stork Stretch – leg straight back – leg out to the side (standing hold your foot behind and for out to the side just bring your foot up and pull it to the outside to get a good stretch.)

    Hamstrings

Hurdle stretch – Foot straight – Foot in – Foot out (you have 4 sets of muscles that make up your quads by pointing your toes in the different directions you will get all the sets.)

    Or

Pike stretch (feet together out in front of you) – Feet straight – feet in – feet out (same concept of getting all sets of muscles.

    Groin

Butterfly (sit down bring both feet in until the are touching each other than lean forwards keeping your back straight as you lean.)

Side lunge to the right and to the left

    Hip Flexor

    Static Lunge or walk-out Stretch

    Back

    Pretzel Stretch

    Legs over the head stretch

    Arms

    Arm across the body

Pulling elbow down over your head

keep your water bottle next to you as your are cooling down and just sip on it as you are stretching out. also If you eat something immediately after exercising you will start recovering right away.  The sooner you eat the better. Good luck and have fun

  10. Lets say you run for 60 minutes you should then cool down for about 6 minutes by walking then stretch.  Make sure to stetch good bc long distance running shortens you muscles and if you don't stretch make you far more likely to pull something.

  11. Normally you are supposed to run a lap or so to warm yourself down and then begin your warm down stretches. and this is straight after you have finished training if you dnt then you will feel that your muscles are tight the next day.
