After a successful Tour of Poland, Organisers interested to host World Championships
Poland has shown their interest in hosting the World Championships as it has never hosted the event since the start. World Championships started in 1921 and were held in Eastern part of the Europe only twice: 1928 in Hungary and 1981 in Czechoslovakia.
Czeslaw Lang was the organiser of Tour of Poland and also has the honour of being the first rider for his country to turn professional. Lang is confident that Poland is capable enough to host World Championships on their soil as he mentioned, “The last stages
of Tour of Poland could offer a great parcours for the world championships.”
Lang who seemed happy with the way Tour of Poland went and is satisfied with the developments as he mentioned that the sport is now strongly followed in Poland and that was clear during the race as huge amount of fans gathered across the streets. He mentioned,
”On the cyclosporive that we organised on stage 6, there were 1,500 participants, two times more than last year, it shows cycling is growing in Poland. But it’s still in a development phase. Teams, organisers, riders: we will all have a lot to learn.”
The 68th Tour of Poland started on July 31 and concluded on August 6
with a total of seven stages. Peter Sagan won the Tour with a total time of 26:40:00 with Daniel Martin finishing second with six seconds behind and Marco Marcato third with seven seconds behind after the final general classification of Tour of Pologne,
2011.
Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team topped the team classifications with Sky Procycling at second and AG2R La Mondiale at third position after stage 7 general classifications.
Tour of Poland has organised numerous time trials and road stages on the famous 40.3 kilometre circuit dominated by the 21-year-old Peter Sagan this year. The 201.5 kilometre stage 5 at Zakopane used in Tour of Poland can be served in World Championships
as well as the 128 kilometre stage 7 at Krakow as proposed by Lang.
