  1. Of course it does.  Mankind has the power to move very large amts of mass from one place to another.  It does have an effect.  Consider what was on Manhattan Island in 1500 and look at it now.  Millions of tons of stone and concrete now pushes down on a land mass that once was open, undeveloped.  Billions of barrels of oil have been removed from deposits and moved across the globe.  Of course it has an effect.

  2. The worlds deepest mine is 3.6km, the earths crust is 35km thick or nearly 10 times deeper.  The diameter of the Earth is 12,800km so we have quite literally only just scratched the surface.

The majority of material removed in the form of metal ores, building stone, etc. has only really been moved from one place to another so it will have no significant effect on geoligical activity.

The burning of fossil fuels will without any doubt cause global warming and affect weather.

  3. No, it's too small scale to bring about catastrophies that size

  4. No, one would have to drain it from thousands of miles deep instead of only a few miles.

As it is, the effect would be more like you squeezing a pimple.

Too shallow to leave a lasting impression.
