...rather than the first male?

Personally I would get rid of them after the Queen dies.

  1. I think if they keep the royals then it should be the 1st born regardless of the s*x. Why are males supposed to be superior to females. Maybe they thought that in ancient times but not these days. We live in a modern world where we should all be equals whatever gender we are.

  2. It's time for "the Colonies" to wade into this lively discussion.Looking at it from 'over here', it seems only the press benefits from their existence. They do nothing for us!,but cost us a pile of money when they arrive for a visit. Makes my day when Alana asks a question, and Gar answers it!

  3. Apparently yes. The British government is seeking to abolish an 18th century royal succession law that requires the daughter of a monarch to make way for her younger brother. The Act of Settlement of 1701 law giving male heirs the right to succeed to the throne ahead of any older sisters was unfair and "a load of rubbish." The government is expected to use new equality legislation to guarantee women's succession rights.

Note: There are also discussions on wanting to repeal the law banning the heir to the throne from marrying a Catholic.

  4. THE QUEEN WILL NEVER DIE!......................... She knows who is next on the throne if she does. She will never let that happen!

Besides, if you didn't like watching Joanna Lamely on the telly tonight. How the h**l are you gonna put up with Godzilla Parker bowles for the next 20 years, standing there next to old big lugs?

How are the poor artists, commissioned to paint portraits, to find a canvas long enough for her face *and* wide enough for his ears? I ask you this!

  5. Yes it is right that THEY (whoever they are) should expect the first born to be next in line to the throne.  It is a much fairer way of doing things and more in keeping with the way society is going these days.

  6. The rules should stay the same.

  7. The rules should stay as they are.

Patricia M - "they cost us a pile of money when they arrive for a visit" - I suppose the recent visit of the Pope didn`t cost you a cent did it, or any other head of state who has visited the US?

  8. Hmmm, I wonder what will happen to a first-born princess? Will she live to see puberty? Tradition dies hard.

  9. The rules to the succession could change to allow the 'eldest child' to ascend the throne rather than the 'first born son'.

Not sure exactly how this will be received, because it could have an effect upon everyone and not just Royalty.

If English Law were to be changed so that the oldest child [boy or girl] inherits, property, title etc., this will effect every family in the land and not just the royals.

At least I think it will.

The other thing the UK.gov wants to do is do away with the law with forbids the monarch from marrying a Catholic.

Not sure how that will be received in Puritan England.  I have a feeling that the ammo is already being piled up in country barns - ready.
